Hello possums, we all like a good belly laugh, or a laughing/smiling emoji. Dame Edna (Barry Humphries) and other comedians dedicate/ed their careers to making people laugh. Just why is laughter good for our mental health?
- It creates a connection and shared positive experiences and memories between humans.
- It increases the release of endorphins (those feel good hormones).
- It can decrease emotional or physical pain/suffering.
- It assists you to think about the hard times in life in a more positive/lighter way.
- It can lift your mood if you laugh on your own (or with others).
- It is relaxing and distressing for you.
- It increases your resilience.
- It lifts your energy level.
How can you increase laughter in your life?
- Take yourself or a special someone or a group of friends to a comedy night.
- Watch comedy on a screen at home (computer, phone, laptop, TV). This could be a comedy show or comedy movie.
- Read or tell jokes to yourself or others.
- Join a laughter yoga class.
- Make a song list of uplifting, happy songs. Listen to them and dance to them.
Here is a joke for you.
Q: Why did the possum decide to cross over the road?
A: To visit his neighbour.
Now please email me your favourite or best joke, thanks.
Wow, I feel happier just by writing this blog:)
